Afternoon Bible Study
Throughout the Old Testament we read about the practice of sacrificing animals. This idea might seem cruel and hard to imagine in our present day, but it was part of God's plan. To atone for their sin, people would choose a lamb, something that was valuable to them, and sacrifice it to the Lord. It was a reminder of the seriousness of their sin before God.

Because we are sinners, we need a Savior. The Jews had heard of a coming Messiah for hundreds of years. Prophets had foretold of One who would redeem humanity, but many wondered if He would ever appear.

In the Book of John, John the Baptist recognized that Jesus was the Messiah, the One who would deliver us from our sins. He knew that the Lamb of God would be the ultimate sacrifice once and for all.


God has always desired to have a relationship with His creation. However, sin created a barrier between us and His love.

Jesus was the only, perfect spotless Lamb of God whose blood could cleanse us from our sin. He offered a new way, a better way to atone for our sin. Now, because of His sacrifice, we can come boldly before the Father, seek His forgiveness, and enjoy an unhindered relationship with Him.

Jesus's sacrifice changed everything. When He redeems us from our sin, it changes our eternity.
Afternoon Prayer
Jesus, thank you for offering yourself as the ultimate sacrifice for my sin so that I could have a relationship with you. Only you, Jesus, could redeem my soul, make me right before God, and provide a way for me to spend eternity with you. Forgive me and cleanse me from my sin and help me live for you. In your name, amen.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Study
"Nahum was a prophet, called by God and sent to the city of Ninevah. Like many prophets before and after Nahum, the prophecies he delivered were unpleasant.

The people of Ninevah were not honoring God. They had turned back to Him, but their devotion didn't last for long and they returned to their old way of living. While Nahum reminded the people that God was good and could be trusted, he also let them know that justice was coming.

In this afternoon's verse, Nahum encouraged the Ninevites to find refuge in the Lord as a "strong hold in the day of trouble." Much of their trouble was a result of their sinful living, but if they would turn back to God, they would find His goodness.

The same advice holds true for us today: We can find hope in God no matter what we face in life, even if we bring it upon ourselves. However, just like the people of Ninevah, we have to turn away from our sinful ways and seek God.

Because God is righteous and holy, we can't stand in His presence with sin in our hearts. We need His mercy and grace to cleanse us and help us live like Him, and for Him. Whether we are facing the day of trouble or the best day we have ever experienced, we can always put our trust in God.
Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer
Dear God, thank you for walking with me through every single day. Help me look inward to see if my actions have produced trouble in my life. Please cleanse me from my sin and give me the strength to live for you. Remind me to trust you and lead others to do the same. You are faithful and holy. I worship you. In Jesus's name, amen.
