Today's Bible VerseAnd God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.
In this verse in 2 Corinthians, the apostle Paul writes that the Lord can make grace abound so that we are sufficient in all things. He is talking specifically about giving, and this verse indicates that we will always have what we need when we follow the Lord's prompting to give. We don't need to be afraid that following the Lord's command to be generous will leave us destitute; He will supply all of our needs.
Paul writes to assure the Corinthians they can have faith that the Lord will provide for them exactly what they need. In the same way, if the Lord asks us to give generously, we don't need to worry that He will forget about us or not care for us; we know that He will sustain us always.
The Lord has promised to sustain us in everything. We needn't be anxious about His provision over each and every one of our needs. Indeed, when we obey Him, we can trust that He is going before us in all things. He will make good on all His promises to us; every act of faithful generosity will be rewarded in due time.
Sometimes, however, it is difficult to see how the Lord will provide for us. It might seem as though he is hiding from us—but that is never the case. Indeed, Paul encourages the Corinthians to have confidence in the Lord's faithfulness. He recognizes that the greatest hindrance to obedience is not a desire to go our own way, but instead a refusal to trust that the Lord will fulfill all of the things that He has promised.
Today, if you are struggling to be generous or faithful in an area of your life, remember that the Lord is mighty and always faithful. We don't need to worry when we are seeking Him; we can trust that He will give us exactly what we need when we need it, sustaining us always.
Dear Lord, there is no one like you. Thank you for defeating my worry and anxiety with truths about your character. When I think about your great love for me, I have no reason to be afraid of anything. Thank you for being who you are, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

Yesterday's Bible VerseTherefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. :
In this passage from 2 Corinthians, Paul writes about how he accepts the Lord's decisions, even when He doesn't remove something that has caused pain. He knows that when he is weak, the Lord gives him strength. His infirmity has forced him to a new level of reliance on the Lord, and his weakness is a vessel for Christ's strength.
Have you ever despised your own weakness? I know that I have been frustrated with all sorts of things about myself and my surroundings at different times in my life. This seemed to prevent me from doing the work that I felt I was called to do. However, my perspective was wrong. I should have remembered that the Lord does not want us to focus on our own weaknesses, but instead His strength, which is more than sufficient for anything that we need in our lives.
What does it mean to have strength in the Lord? It begins with understanding that we are not responsible for anything but ourselves. We do not have to judge our effectiveness by anything other than our obedience to Him; the results of our efforts are entirely up to God. Instead of having our identity in what we do, we can remember that we are His children… loved and accepted just as we are because Christ has covered us with His perfect righteousness.
When you feel weak or broken, remember that the Lord does not expect you to be strong. Instead, He desires that we call out to Him, embracing all that He is. We are not called to make ourselves strong and then come to the Lord. Instead, recognizing our weakness and utter dependence on the Lord for everything in our lives, we are called to seek after Him and His fullness, knowing that He will sustain us through every trial we face. He is our strength, a comfort to the weak.
Dear Lord, thank you for being my strength when I am weak. When I feel like I have nothing in me to give, you help me serve other people. When I feel lost and alone, you are my companion. Thank you for sustaining me through every circumstance, through thick and thin, and being my Lord through everything. In Jesus' name, amen.
