Afternoon Bible Study
Everyone on Earth wants to be happy. Theologian Aurelius Augustine once said, "I am not alone in this desire for happiness, nor are there only a few who share it with me: without exception, we all long for happiness They may all search for it in different ways, but all try their hardest to reach the same goal, that is, joy."

A search for joy and happiness can explain most human behavior and people typically search in all the wrong places, rather than simply turning to God. The world tends to depict God as stern and serious and anti--fun, but that is far from the truth! The Bible reveals that God Himself is the giver of the only true joy available to humanity.

God not only wants us to receive His joy, but to revel in it so much that it fills us to overflowing.

So how do we find this godly joy? It begins by seeking the Lord's presence in our everyday lives. When we are aware of His goodness all around us, it takes our eyes off our worries and cares of this life. This re--focus allows us to understand that God is continuously reaching out to extend His love toward us, His children.

The more we become like Christ, the more joyful we are. Jesus didn't spread doom and gloom while He was on the earth. No one would have been drawn to a Savior who was miserable. Jesus was full of God's Spirit, and people felt His joy and contentment everywhere He went.

Imagine if people could experience joy by being in our presence. That is entirely possible as we learn to receive and experience God's joy ourselves.
Afternoon Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for setting the ultimate example of living with a joyful attitude. I pray that you would fill me with your joy and peace and that those all around me would sense your presence in my life. Your goodness is everywhere. Help me be aware of how much you love me, Jesus. In your name, amen.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Verse
"I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Acts 20:35 (KJV)

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Study
"There is no doubt that receiving is a good thing but Jesus taught that it was a greater blessing to be a giver.

As followers of Jesus, we should have a passion for giving. Often, the first thing that comes to our minds is money. Although giving financially is biblical, and important, it is not the only means of giving to others.

We often devalue opportunities to help, mentor, and invest in others to help them become all that God wants them to be. It's an incredible feeling to know that someone cares about us ... enough that he or she is willing to invest precious time in our lives.

Many people have experienced the privilege of gleaning wisdom from older believers. Their insight and godly advice can have an enormous impact on our lives. It is incredible for someone in their later years to understand the value of giving to others in this way.

Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer
God, you have given me so much. Thank you for life and the ability to live for you. Help me look for opportunities to give to others. Don't let me live in a way that I am only living for myself and what I can obtain. Let me see the people around me and the abundant investment opportunities. I want to honor you by giving to others. In Jesus's name, amen.
