Today's Bible VerseThe Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Add to FavoritesIn this Psalm, King David writes about all that the Lord is to him. He is a rock, fortress, deliverer, strength, salvation, and high tower. Today, we'll reflect on the many roles that the Lord plays in our lives and how we can trust Him because of them.
David says the Lord is his rock, meaning the foundation of his life. He is a fortress, the place where David knows he is safe. God is a deliverer, saving David from evil. He is David's strength, helping him to continue on and be able to serve Him. He is David's buckler, a shield that protects him. He is the horn of David's salvation, keeping him from evil. Finally, He is David's high tower—a place where David knows he can go and be safe. The Lord has David covered! Anything that he needs, the Lord can supply.
Have you experienced God being all of those things in your life? I can give a resounding yes to some of them; others, not so much. I think that's normal. There are seasons in our lives when we need God to be especially strong in different areas. At the same time, we can also remember that whatever we may be facing, God plays an integral role and will help us remain in Him throughout it.
Meditating on the many benefits of knowing God can help us remain focused on Him in any circumstance. Our Lord is both a mighty warrior and a tender Father. Remembering that He is both encourages me and reminds me that I can be comforted in Him as He fights on my behalf. Indeed, David knew what it was like to have many different needs and to have God satisfy each of them over and over again.
The same is true for us. There is no circumstance when God is unable to help us, and He always knows exactly what we need from Him. Just as He did for David, the Lord will protect us, strengthen us, and keep us in Him always.
Dear Lord, thank you for being my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. You are my perfect source of strength, and I trust you with my life. Thank you for saving me and calling me your own. I love you, Lord, and I want to serve you better each day. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.
