Today's Bible VerseFor thou art my hope, O Lord God: thou art my trust from my youth.
Add to FavoritesToday's verse is a powerful reminder that the Lord is our hope in every circumstance. We can trust in Him for all our days, from our earliest to our last. In today's study, we will consider what it means to put our trust and hope in the Lord.
Think about some of the reasons the Lord is our hope. I personally look at how He is with us each day, that He promises deliverance from sin and death, and that He loves us dearly. The greatest evidence of His love for us is that He has made a way for us to have a relationship with Him through Jesus. There was no way that we could know God unless our sins were atoned for once and for all, so Jesus made a way. This reminds us that we are loved by God more than we could ever possibly understand.
Having firm hope in the Lord sustains us each day. Knowing that He will honor everything that we do unto Him helps us continue to serve others even when no one seems to notice. It helps us make sacrifices and say no to sins that otherwise would be very difficult to resist. Hoping in the Lord also helps us steady ourselves emotionally; we can only despair so much when we know that this life is temporary and we will dwell with the Lord in Heaven forever.
The second half of today's Psalm says that the Lord is our trust. Think about what a trust is: a place where something (like a financial investment) is secure. By saying that the Lord is our trust, we are saying that we are totally secure in Him. We know that our faith is secure in Him and that He will honor us. Nothing is lost on the Lord. We can trust that when we strive to honor Him in this world, He sees us.
If you feel yourself slipping or becoming discouraged today, take a step back from your situation and remember the good promises of God. Make the decision to hope in Him, leaning into His perfect faithfulness. He will always be true to His promises.
Dear Lord, thank you for being my sure source of hope always. There is no one like you, and I could not ask for a better God or a mightier savior. Thank you for your great goodness to me, Jesus. In your name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.
