Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Study |
"Throughout the Old Testament we read about the practice of sacrificing animals. This idea might seem cruel and hard to imagine in our present day, but it was part of God's plan. To atone for their sin, people would choose a lamb, something that was valuable to them, and sacrifice it to the Lord. It was a reminder of the seriousness of their sin before God.
Because we are sinners, we need a Savior. The Jews had heard of a coming Messiah for hundreds of years. Prophets had foretold of One who would redeem humanity, but many wondered if He would ever appear.
In the Book of John, John the Baptist recognized that Jesus was the Messiah, the One who would deliver us from our sins. He knew that the Lamb of God would be the ultimate sacrifice once and for all.

God has always desired to have a relationship with His creation. However, sin created a barrier between us and His love.
Jesus was the only, perfect spotless Lamb of God whose blood could cleanse us from our sin. He offered a new way, a better way to atone for our sin. Now, because of His sacrifice, we can come boldly before the Father, seek His forgiveness, and enjoy an unhindered relationship with Him.
Jesus's sacrifice changed everything. When He redeems us from our sin, it changes our eternity.
