Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Study |
"This afternoon's verse in Galatians is reminiscent of an Old Testament verse, Genesis 39. It is the story of a young man named Joseph, who was in charge of a wealthy man's estate. The owner of the estate, Potiphar, was a captain in the guard for the Egyptian king.
Whenever Potiphar wasn't around, his wife would tempt Joseph. But Joseph had a desire to serve God, and he did not give in to the temptation. Even though the woman continuously pursued him, he always resisted. If he became tempted, he ran away from her. Joseph was led by God and refused to allow temptation to pull him away.

Each of us faces temptation daily. This can come in the form of overeating, spending too much money, lying, or giving into addictive habits. On our own, we are powerless. With God's Spirit leading us, we are unstoppable in our relationship with Him.
Before we encounter temptation, we should have a plan of how we will handle it. We can't wholly avoid temptation, but we don't have to let it lead us away from God.
God can give you the strength to fight sinful desires and help you live a life of godliness.
