Afternoon Bible Verse

Afternoon Bible Study
At the time this verse was written, the prophet Jeremiah was imprisoned for delivering God's message to Judea. The Israelites had once again turned away from God. For years, Jeremiah had prophesied that judgment was coming upon the people. The people refused to believe Jeremiah's warnings from God. Instead, they listened to false prophets who were predicting peace. Since Israel was in rebellion toward God, they would not experience peace until they were restored to Him.

At any point, the Israelites could have repented and turned back to God, but until that point they would continue to face the consequences of their sinful actions. We have that same opportunity today. When we call upon the Lord with a repentant heart, He will hear our cry and answer us with love and forgiveness.


In our relationship with God, we should remain in a posture that allows us to hear correction from the Holy Spirit. God doesn't condemn us when we confess our sins, but He will listen to our prayers and give us direction in how we can live according to His will.

Calling on God also puts us in a place where we are willing to listen to Him. This verse says He will show us great and mighty things that we don't know--and because human wisdom is flawed and unreliable, there is a great deal that we don't know. When we seek after God, we will discover His wisdom and perfect plan for our lives.
Afternoon Prayer
God, You are the Creator of the universe and the Author of everything that has ever existed. You know everything that has happened throughout time, and you know my future. Thank you for hearing my prayers when I call out to you. In Jesus's name, amen.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Study
"Second Thessalonians is an epistle (letter) written by Paul to the people of the Greek city of Thessalonica to clarify his earlier teaching. It wasn't uncommon, even in Paul's day, for there to be confusion and false teaching, especially when end times events were concerned.

Paul cared about the people. He offered encouraging words and support for followers of Jesus because he knew being a Christian wasn't easy. Paul and many others had suffered persecution for their faith. It would have been easier to go back to their former way of living than to keep going on the Christian path, knowing that the road would be long and hard."


In 2 Thessalonians 3:13, Paul encourages believers not to become weary in doing the right thing--something many of us deal with today. As we press on in our faith, we must keep our hearts and minds focused on Jesus, knowing that His grace is sufficient in every situation. Weariness comes when we depend on our own strength, rather than on God.

When times get tough, we mustn't pull back. We remain steadfast in our relationship with God, taking every opportunity to rely on His strength as we live a righteous and holy life. In ourselves, it's impossible. Through Christ, anything is possible.
Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word and the encouragement I need to keep pressing on in my relationship with you. Help me not grow weary in serving you. Forgive me for the times when I have depended on my own strength and wisdom to guide me. As I learn to lean on your power, help me keep my eyes focused on you. I'm thankful for the opportunity to serve you with my life. In Jesus's name, amen.
