In this verse from the prophet Habakkuk, we learn how the Lord is our everlasting strength. Just before this verse, Habakkuk mentioned a number of difficulties, but he quickly made up his mind to rejoice in the Lord. We do not need anything but the Lord to sustain in all of our days; we can rest in His goodness and confidence forever.
What does it mean to have strength in the Lord? When we know Him, we can have confidence that He is with us and working for our good--always. He is ordering the universe and our lives; nothing will change the fact that He is in control of everything. Even if our circumstances seem to contradict this, as Habakkuk's did, we can remember eternal truths about the Lord that transcend our temporary feelings and situations. |

When we have strength in the Lord, we are able to walk in confident obedience to His Word. We will be able to stand up to temptation, say no to sin, and remain faithful and pure before Him. His strength will help us remain encouraged even in times of difficulty, because we'll know that we are secure in Him forever. His strength sustains us, giving us wisdom and peace in good times and bad.
The Lord is quick to give us strength if we feel like we are running on empty. His strength comes to us through various forms, including spiritual disciplines like reading His Word, through prayer, and worship. At other times, He strengthens us through the encouragement of others. We can have confidence that when we call out to God, He will answer us and give us strength.
Today, if you are in need of strength, meditate on this verse from Habakkuk. The Lord promises to give us the strength that we need to serve Him well and honor Him. When we seek after Him and His strength, He will give us all that we need.
