In 1 Corinthians 13, the famous "love chapter," Paul writes that we should continually abide in faith, hope, and charity. He then refers to charity, meaning love, as the greatest of the three. In other words, the most important attribute of the Christian life is love. Today, we will talk about why love is so important and how we can begin to apply it to our lives today.

When we consider love, it is a pretty all-encompassing attribute. If we love the Lord, we will hope in Him and be faithful to Him. But what does it mean to abide in love? There are a number of ways that love expresses itself, but abiding in love as Christians means that we are living in the love of Jesus. When we focus on the love that Jesus has shown us, we will naturally be like Him to other people.

Setting aside time to reflect and think about the love that God has shown us will prime us to abide in His love even when we are not praying, worshipping, or studying the Bible. It will help us cultivate a lifestyle defined by love because we are fully aware of the love we have received.

Loving other people should not be a drain on the Christian. But to be honest, sometimes I feel like I get tired of serving and loving other people, and I wish that someone would reach out to me in response. There is an error in my thinking and behavior that leads to this: I am not truly meditating on Christs love for me. Instead of showing love where He has directed me to, I might be impulsively (instead of prayerfully) giving. If we struggle to find the right balance in showing love to other people, we can ask the Lord to help us and to remind us first and foremost of the love that He has for us.

Today's Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for the love you have shown me throughout my life. Please help me to always remember it and to abide in your love so I can share it with other people in my life. In Jesus' name, amen.

If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.:

Yesterday's Bible study

In this morning's verse, David is rejoicing in being saved from his enemies by God. After living in hiding and uncertainty for so long, David exults in the Lord, saying that he loves Him and that the Lord is his strength. Today, regardless of where you are in life, you too can experience the strength of the Lord.

David had a long road to get to Psalm 18. A tyrannical King Saul sought to kill him, which is what caused David to flee into the wilderness. He knew what it meant to rely on the Lord for everything: for food, for shelter, and for his life. He knew only the Lord could save him; there was no other way he could have lasted. The Lord was faithful to him through all those years, and David learned that the Lord was his strength always.

Have you ever felt like you were at the end of your rope? Faced a situation so impossibly difficult that you had no idea how you would make it? It was through these situations that the Lord made Himself known to David on a deep level, and David knew that the Lord was helping him. The Lord had promised that David would be a great King of Israel, and He became David's strength as he waited for his time.

The Lord offers strength to the weary and comfort to the broken. He does not want you to feel beaten down by the world or hopeless. We know He is near us all the time and that He is good. If we call on the Lord and are honest with feelings and needs, He will give us strength. He will help us honor Him this hour, this minute. We can cling to His glorious promises of Heaven, and ask Him to begin to strengthen us in our souls, just as He did for King David so long ago.

Yesterday's Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for being my strength always. Thank you for loving me more than I could ever understand. Please continue to strengthen me day by day so that I can serve you and honor you with my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
