At the beginning of Psalm 44, the writer remembers how the Lord defended and fought for the Israelites in the past. When they departed from Egypt, they did not lift their swords; instead, they waited for the Lord to move on their behalf in a way that only He could do. This verse gives us strength today, reminding us that the Lord cares for us and fights for us always.
Do you remember how the Israelites fled from their captors in Egypt? The Lord sent 10 plagues, and when the Egyptian army raced after the Israelites, He parted the Red Sea--and as soon as the Israelites passed, the Egyptians drowned. The Lord moved in a way that was supernatural; no human could replicate it, and no human would be foolish enough to claim that the Israelites fought their way out. It was clear that the Lord was on their side.

The Israelites had the strength to do the impossible because they knew that the Lord was with them. They knew that their fate was entirely in the Lord's hands, and nothing that they could do would stop His purposes. Today, we're a lot like the Israelites. We face battles every day that none of us could ever hope to win. None of us is any match for the temptations of sin, and yet God intervened in our hearts and gave us the strength to make decisions that honor Him. If He can change our hearts, the Lord can do anything in our lives.
Whatever you are facing today, take a moment to be strengthened in the promises of God. He knows exactly what you need, and He cares about all of your needs being met. If you need rest, peace, healing, encouragement, a job, or a miracle, be bold and ask the Lord to provide for you. Ask that He would strengthen you to abide well in the waiting.
The Lord offers us the strength to carry us through even the darkest and deepest valleys. When the Israelites were surrounded by the Red Sea and the Egyptians, they cried out in fear. However, Moses turned to the Lord and prayed. He got his strength and courage from the Lord, and the rest is history.
