King David writes this psalm to remind himself of the many ways that the Lord has been faithful to him. He wants his soul to bless the Lord! He lists some of the reasons why the Lord is worthy of blessing: He forgives our sins and heals all diseases. This encourages us that the Lord does not despise us in our affliction, but instead reaches down to minister to us. He is a healer, physically and spiritually, and we can trust in Him.
Think about the parts of your life that need healing. What is an area of brokenness that is not yet healed? The Lord has promised to one day heal it. It might not be healed until Heaven, but you can rest assured that healing will come because the Lord has promised to forgive all iniquities and heal all diseases. Whatever your affliction is now, it is temporary! Because of this, we can live in victory today. We do not have to be downcast because of our burdens; rather, we can use them as a reminder to think about our future hope.

Knowing that the Lord is a healer gives us the strength to face each day. It reminds us that we do not serve an indifferent God, but a faithful and loving Lord. He cares about our pain and meets us in the middle of our sorrow. He knows exactly what we are going through, and He experienced every level of hurt when He walked this Earth. This means we can trust Him with our weaknesses; we can turn to Him again and again because we know that He is good.
Because of all these truths, David tells his soul to bless the Lord. He is commanding his body and mind to honor God. He has decided to reflect on the goodness of the Lord and to respond to it; his feelings have no say in the matter.
Even if we are in the midst of sorrow or still waiting for healing, we can turn to the Lord, knowing that He is faithful and will meet our needs. Our souls can bless Him in any circumstance and through every trial.
