In today's verse, Jesus tells a woman that she is healed of an illness that has plagued her for many years. She had come up to Him in a crowd and touched his garment. Jesus asks to see who touched Him, and when she reveals herself to Him, He says the words in Mark 5:34. Today, we'll look at what we can learn about healing and the Lord through this account.

Jesus tells the woman that she was healed because of her faith. It was a very bold move for her to make her way through the crowd so that she could touch His robe… but she had enough faith to know that a mere touch from Him would heal her. Jesus commends her for this, saying it is her faith that made her well. For us, this means we should be willing to totally trust God for healing.

Yet we have to be careful not to assume what the Lord will do. While He desires healing, it doesn't always come. There are people with chronic illnesses who have a vibrant relationship with the Lord. Their struggle with illness does not mean the Lord doesn't love them or care about their pain—quite the contrary!

There are just things that we simply cannot understand about the Lord… but we know enough to trust that He is good, loving, and has planned ultimate healing for all of us through Jesus. We know He has given us eternal life in Heaven with Himself.

Today's Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for being a God of healing. You love all your people more than I will ever understand. You know the needs that I bring before you—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual—and you know exactly where I need healing. Thank you for your great love for me, Lord. Please help me to have faith like the woman you healed in Mark 5. In Jesus' name, amen.

If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.:

In this verse, the Prophet Isaiah reports the words of the Lord to the Israelite people. He tells them that quietness and confidence were their strengths, and is angered that they rejected those strengths in favor of their own means. This morning, we'll talk about the context of this verse and consider how it applies to our lives today.

The Israelites had turned against God by desiring an alliance with the Egyptians. Their enemies were pressing in on all sides, and it seemed as if they had nowhere to turn. Instead of waiting for the Lord to deliver them from their oppressors, they took matters into their own hands and looked to their former captors, the Egyptians, for deliverance. The Lord was angered by their disobedience and lack of trust, and He told them that their strength was not in their cunning alliances or might—but rather, in quietness and confidence.

What does it mean for quietness and confidence to be our strengths? Quietness reflects a state of being; a steady and sound mind. Imagine being calm even as your enemies surround you. This could only be possible if you were also confident that the Lord would provide—that He would make sure you were protected and secure in Him. Confidence in the Lord makes it possible to be quiet and calm in the direst of circumstances.

If you look at your life today, would you say that you sometimes try to solve problems like the Israelites did? Do you rush to a solution without first consulting the Lord? If you do, remember that the Lord has given us a much better way. He does not want us to rush about nervously, but instead, to rest quietly in His faithfulness. He is bigger than anything you are facing, and He is with you, even here.

Yesterday's Prayer

Dear Lord, help me find my strength in you. It's easy to be tempted to solve my own problems my own way, and waiting for you can be very difficult. But I want to honor you, Lord. I want my strength to come from you in quietness and confidence. Help me to put on Godly strength today. In Jesus' name, amen.
