Today's Bible VerseI write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
In this verse, John reminds us that our sins have been forgiven once and for all. Jesus made it possible for us to be wiped clean of all our wrongs. Because of Him, we are able to stand before God completely clean, as if in robes of white that signify our own purity. Today, let's think about the forgiveness that the Lord has shown us.
Have you ever done something wrong and immediately regretted it? I certainly have. In fact, I can think of instances in my life where I despised the little voice in my head that convicted me and instead went ahead with my own plans. The feeling afterward was terrible. Indeed, I've heard it said that there is no one more miserable than a Christian living in sin. When we sin, we wound God and reject His promises, putting a chasm between us. And as Christians, we feel that deeply.
Jesus was the bridge for the chasm. When He died on the cross, He made it possible for us to be forgiven of everything sinful that we have ever done or will ever do. This shows us the severity of sin. God cannot simply overlook our wrongs; blood had to be shed for them. At the same time, He is too loving for us to be forever separated from Him, which sin leads to. The solution was Jesus' death on the cross. Because He satisfied God's justice, we can receive grace when we come before the Lord with repentant hearts.
When John Newton wrote the hymn Amazing Grace, he truly realized the forgiveness that God had given him. As a former slave trader, Newton knew he had hurt many people. When he became a Christian, he left that profession and became a priest. He knew that Jesus had forgiven him, and his only response was to reflect on the grace that God had shown him… properly calling it amazing.
We are no different from John Newton. We live in the wake of amazing grace, in the forgiveness that is freely given to us even though we could never deserve it. That's how much God loves us.
Dear Lord, thank you for your forgiveness, and for loving me so much. Thank you for the grace that you have shown me through my salvation, and for all of the mercy that you show me each day. In Jesus' name, amen.
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.

Yesterday's Bible VerseMy flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.:
In this Psalm, we have a reminder that God is the strength of our hearts forever. Even when our flesh and hearts fail, the Lord sustains us. Today, we will talk about what it means for the Lord to be our strength and how to rest in Him even when we are facing difficult times.
God will give us strength even when we are weak. We do not have to be strong in flesh and heart; they can be failing us completely, but God will sustain us. Even when we are unable to be strong, God is mighty within us. We can always turn to the Lord, confident that He is the source of unfailing strength in every situation.
What does it mean for the Lord to be the strength of our hearts? In this verse the word "hearts" refers to our spirits, which guide us to remain in the Lord even when we are weary or upset. Our spirits help us keep going even when we are suffering. When the Lord is our strength, He is helping us remain firm in Him and continue honoring Him, even when we are discouraged.
When we realize that we don't have to look to ourselves for strength, but instead to God Himself, we can experience what it means for God to give us strength. We will open up the channel for God to move in our own hearts, and we will experience a miracle in ourselves, strengthened by the Lord.
If you feel weary from the world or from whatever you are facing, ask the Lord to make this verse real for you. Ask Him to give you strength and to fill you up with truths and confidence in Him. He will sustain you through the battle. All we need to do is come to Him, even if we are devoid of strength, and ask Him to intervene in our hearts and lives.
Dear Lord, thank you for being the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Thank you for sustaining me in all times, for loving me relentlessly, and caring for me better than I know how to care for myself. Thank you for your goodness. In Jesus' name, amen.
