Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Study |
"Proverbs 22:6 is one of the most well-known Scripture passages on child-rearing. Children are a wonderful gift from God. It is a privilege to raise them to follow His ways.
No matter what our role, whether it is parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, or friend, if we have the opportunity to influence a child, we should realize the importance of the things we do and say.
As parents, we are always training our kids, even when we aren't doing it intentionally. They learn everything from us … how to talk, walk, what to eat, how to interact with others, and so forth.
Children look to adults to demonstrate what their possible future may look like. Our attitudes affect how they treat others and how they respond to God.
Without guidance, children are left to form their own judgments about what is right and wrong. Their ideas may be foolish and demonstrate a lack of common sense. Our influence, when guided by the Holy Spirit, can make a lasting impact on their lives.

By instructing them in God's commandments, we are helping them understand that God's Word is the highest authority in our lives … and the way to stay on the right path. When our children make mistakes, we have the opportunity to extend the same grace to them that God has shown to us.
We aren't left to train up our children on our own. God can provide all the wisdom and guidance we need to help our children follow after Him.
