Afternoon Bible Study
Our awesome Creator carefully crafted our brains. They are so important that we cannot physically live without them. Yet even though our brains make it possible for us to eat, breathe, sleep, move, learn, and think, we do not possess infinite knowledge and abilities.

In fact, sometimes our brains do not function at maximum capacity. Research has shown that we forget about half of the information we gather within one hour. Within a week, we have forgotten almost 90 percent of that information.

As human beings we forget things, even important things. Proverbs 3:6 tells us to acknowledge God in everything we do, and He will give us direction for our lives.

There are times when we make a choice not to acknowledge God, and other times when we forget. Our brains and minds fail us; even though God should always be our first thought, sometimes He isn't.

We need to rely on God's strength and power to remind us to put Him first. We need God's help to remember what we have studied in His Word. It is impossible to do anything without the Holy Spirit's guidance.

God is with us, every day and everywhere we go--He is always there. When we take time to acknowledge that God is there, we become willing to hear what He has to say to us as He guides us in His ways.
Afternoon Prayer
God, I want to put you first in every area of my life. Please help me see the areas where I am not acknowledging you. Make me aware that you are ever-present in my thoughts, words, and actions. Thank you for guiding my steps with your truth as I follow after you. In Jesus's name, amen.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Verse
"And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common."
Acts 4:32 (KJV)

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Study
"The New Testament church was established during the first century AD. Based on the teaching of Jesus, His disciples carried His message to the world around them after His death and resurrection.

This new group of Jesus followers faced tremendous challenges from the very beginning. They were accused of following the teachings of a false teacher, and persecuted for it. For publicly professing their unwavering belief in Jesus as the Son of God, they were beaten, imprisoned, and many tortured and killed.

Those who traveled and helped spread the Gospel left behind their families and professions, and they depended solely on each other. In Acts 4, Paul gives us a glimpse of this community of Christians. Not only did they share their possessions with each other, but they were united in their hearts and souls by the message of God's love.

Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer
Jesus, please help me be aware of the needs of those around me as I go about my daily life. Everything I possess is only on loan from you. Equip me to be a good steward who is willing to share with others everything you have blessed me with. You set the ultimate example of honoring God by giving everything you had. Help me to do the same in my life, Jesus. In your name, amen.
