What does it mean when something is good?

In the Book of Genesis, we read that God created everything and said His creation was good. Today, we typically define good as a feeling or response to how we are doing.

There are times in our lives that don't feel good. In fact, we experience trials, losses, and disappointments that feel anything BUT good. It's important to remember, however, that God is always good and what He does is always right. We need to allow Him to give us peace and hope in our hearts and minds.

If we trust God with our soul, we should know that in our everyday lives, He is going to take care of us.


Romans 8:28 tells us that all things work together for good to them that love God, but there's a second part to that verse: to them who are called according to his purpose.

In the beginning, when God created everything that was good, He created humanity. He has always had a divine plan for us, and that is to know Him. God allows things that we wouldn't consider favorable because He is still working His plan for what He knows will bring good in our lives. Be encouraged ... God is always good in everything He does!
Afternoon Prayer
Dear God, there are times when life doesn't feel good -- but you are always good. Please encourage my heart when I'm sad or let down by others. Lift my head when the weight of the world is pressing down on me. Give me hope and peace in my heart and mind. Thank you for working everything for good in my life. I choose to serve you, no matter what. In Jesus's name, amen.

Yesterday Afternoon's Bible Study
"Families are important. Every person on the planet was born into the family God prepared for them -- it wasn't accidental. Our upbringing shapes the person we become as an adult. By the age of ten, our fundamental core values have already been formed in our lives.

Some people grow up in godly families where their faith is at the forefront of everything they do. For others, faith in God is absent in their homes, and they are left going through life without an Anchor, never certain if they are doing the right thing.

God's Word gives us a foundation to build our lives upon. When we need to make decisions, we can seek God in prayer and study the Bible. Even though we have these guides, the best time to make decisions is before the pressure is on. We can decide on the things that matter before we are standing face to face with them.

Yesterday Afternoon's Prayer
Lord, I make hundreds of decisions every day. My prayer is that I always make the right choices, but I know there will be times when my choices don't glorify you. In those moments, I'm grateful that you give me grace that I don't deserve. Remind me to search your Word and seek your heart for every decision I make. Thank you for always providing the answers I need. In Jesus's name, amen.
